Most activities take place at locations on Broadway between 13th and 7th St. There are two stages that can be accessed via Commerce St (two of the SOTA stages) and one workshop space will be accessed via St. Helens.

7:00-7:30 SPARX Theatrical Performance: Come and see a wild and funny play put on by the Metro Arts SPARX theatre students from area middle schools. Directed by: Sharon Cantrill



7:30-7:45 Metro Arts Dance Company presents excerpts from the up and coming performance of "Cinderella" Come and see a preview of what is to come in the Spring. Directed by: Mary Mabry



7:45-8:00 Mini - Magical Ballet class given by the cast from "Cinderella". This is open for all to watch, with a sampler class geared toward 3-6 year olds. Older elementary children may participate.



8:00-8:30 Korean Dance & Drumming: Come and see and 15 minute performance of this dance genre and then experience a free class, that is open for teen-adult to try out. Directed by: Kim Soo



8:30-9:00 Fire and Ice Irish Step Dance Company Performance and free trial class. If you have ever been curious about this style and wanted to try it out, now is your chance. Directed by: Susan Calhoun



9:00-9:45 School of the Arts theatre students present a performance piece Directed by: Kelly Doran



9:45-10:30 Belly Dance Performance. Led by famed Tacoma Belly dancer, Deborah Anderson, audiences will be sure to love watching this form of dance. Stick around after the performance for a free sampler class.

Art for kids: Metro Arts will lead your children through the creation and exploration of various arts projects relating to the Metal Tiger. Go home with a mask and other assorted creations to remember your night out as a family!

Tacoma City Ballet will be performing three short ballets with Pearl Django. "The Boss" "Too Many Proposals" and "You've Got the Wrong Idea, Love" all explore the general theme of "Romance Gone Bad." These are funny little vignettes about the troubles between women and men.

The BareFoot Collective (tBFC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for dance and related arts in our community. We serve the greater Tacoma area by providing opportunities to take classes, participate in performances produced by professional artists, and exhibit creative work. The Collective develops and maintains a supportive networking environment for the creative community through service projects, grant writing, and ongoing fundraising activities. We seek to provide working studio space for movement and related artists to teach, create, rehearse, and present work.

Urban Soul Stage

The Inner City Soul Stage will highlight soulful performances from featured spoken word artists from Speak Your Soul with the classical musical and experimental fusion of The Urban Orchestra. Each hour will include a spoken word feature, an independent set of pieces from the Urban Orchestra and time for several open mic performances from audience members. Each set will culminate with a collaborative performance from the feature and the entire 9 member Urban Orchestra ensemble.

The performance invites an eclectic, collaborative, celebratory night of live performance with room for audience participation along with high energy spoken word and rich classically influenced music with a contemporary and experimental edge.

The Tacoma Round

The Round is a collaborative arts experience with three songwriters sharing the stage with slam poets and live visual artists. The Round highlights the community aspect of art, connecting the performers to each other and the audience. This will be the eighth Round hosted in Tacoma.

Join the Grand Cinema in association with The Tacoma Film Club at 924 Broadway for entertaining family films during the First Night festival. These are short films so you don’t have to block out an hour of your time, just come when you can and see what is showing:

West Bank Story (21 min.) Comedy/Musical – set in Israel a fast-paced, fast-food romance/comedy.

Binta & The Great Idea (30 min.) Comedy/Family/French – set in Senegal the film follows a young girl and her father’s great idea.

Eramos Pocos “One Too Many” (16 min.) Comedy/Spanish – the film follows a wife tired of her husband and son’s messy ways.

Helmer & Son (13 min) Comedy/Drama/Danish – a son visits his father who is stuck in an armoire at his resthome.

The Danish Poet (14 min) Animation/Romance/Danish – a woman narrates the story of how her parents met.

Maestro (5 min.) Animation – follows what a Maestro and his assistant prepare for five minutes before a performance.

The Grand Cinema is Pierce County's only non-profit art house film theater dedicated to bringing independent films to the area. The Tacoma Film Club is an organization in Tacoma, Washington designed to celebrate and promote the art of film. We hold monthly meetings set up much like a Book Club. Each month we select three films to watch, typically one theater film and two films on DVD or VHS. At each function we discuss the films seen from the previous month, all in a comfortable atmosphere.
